On Thursday, June 20th at 10am Dublin City Libraries launched their Summer Stars Reading Adventure in Kevin Street Library. Attended by two of Ireland’s most talented children’s authors, Patricia Forde and Padraig Kenny. Children from local schools got the chance to meet the authors and to explore space from inside The Discovery Dome, an indoor planetarium within library.
To coincide with the 50th anniversary of the moon landings, Dublin City Libraries have chosen a Sci-Fi and Space theme for this this year’s Summer Stars Reading Adventure programme. A number of children’s fiction and information books about science and space travel will be promoted in all of Dublin City libraries along with selected libraries hosting space inspired events and workshops.
Speaking about the campaign, Dublin City Librarian, Mairead Owens says ‘The Summer Stars Reading Adventure is a very popular part of Dublin City Libraries’ services to children during the summer months. All of our libraries are ready to welcome young readers and to help them find books that will inspire and inform them. We place an equal emphasis on fiction and information books to ensure that every child can be rewarded for reading what interests them most. The Summer Stars Awards Ceremonies in September provide an opportunity for libraries to acknowledge the efforts of the children and young people and recognise their love for reading and all the benefits it brings’.
