Veritas Publications Launches New Imprint—Beehive Books

by Bel Kelly

Veritas Publications, Ireland’s leading religious publisher, has announced a new imprint.

Beehive Books will serve as a general-interest imprint focusing on non-fiction and children’s books, and will release its first titles in spring of 2022.

“The pandemic drew our attention to a number of issues—from the restorative power of nature, to the benefits of connection and social engagement. With these issues and more in mind, we compiled a strong list of titles to showcase the new imprint,” says Síne Quinn, managing editor at Veritas.

“For our spring–summer list, we focused on a number of pertinent subjects—from mentoring our ageing minds, as well as celebrating the ageing process, to the importance of managing stress and celebrating the beauty of nature on our doorstep.”

Darkness into Light

Beehive Books’ spring-summer list consists of six titles, including Pieta House founder Joan Freeman’s Darkness into Light: A Nation’s Response.

This important book tells the story of the birth of a national and international movement that brings hundreds and thousands of people together for an annual walk to raise funds for Pieta House…[The book] describes how this extraordinary event began and includes testimonies from people who brought the walk to different parts of Ireland and, indeed, different parts of the world.

Children’s titles

While their spring-summer list is all titles for adult readers, Beehive Books’ autumn-winter lists expands to children’s titles too.

A statement from the imprint comments, “Ireland is experiencing a golden age of children’s literature with an exceptional number of talented illustrators and writers. Interest in children’s books was rising before the pandemic but surged during the long months of lockdown.”

They plan to meet that rising interest with two commissioned children’s titles to be released this autumn-winter season.

You can keep an eye out for their next release after Darkness into Light: A Nation’s Response— A Breath of Fresh Éire, a photo and essay book by Olga Balaeva, and visit their website here.
