Murder in the Monto: 2023
During the First World War, a young Irishman, Christopher Flinter, deserts from the British army to avenge his brother’s death. Christopher arrives back in Dublin after the Easter Rising. On the verge of killing the man responsible, he is caught and taken to Dublin Castle. There, Jonathan Byatt, a British secret agent, makes him an offer: either the firing squad or he goes to works undercover for him. Christopher, who has no time for the Uprising, readily agrees. He is instructed to go into Dublin’s Monto, the largest and most notorious red-light district in Europe. There he must track down and find out the identity of a man codenamed Janus – a faceless serial killer, with a mission to orchestrate America’s entry into the war.
