Varuna, Tyrone Guthrie, and Poetry Ireland international exchange recipient announced
Poetry Ireland, Varuna and Tyrone Guthrie Centre have announced that Catherine Phil MacCarthy is the recipient of the bursary to take part in a four-week residency at Varuna Writer’s House in Australia this October.
Catherine will receive airfare, spend four weeks in the residency, and will take part in readings and events at the Blue Mountains Writers Festival during her stay.
Varuna is Australia’s largest national residency for writers, hosting six writers in residence at any one time. Around 160 writers are hosted each year, offering an inspirational environment for committed writers from all genres to work undisturbed on their projects.
Catherine has published five collections of poetry (and a novel), most recently Daughters of the House and The Invisible Threshold, with Dedalus Press. She received the Lawrence Shaughnessy Award for Irish Poetry from the University of St Thomas in Minnesota, and is a former editor of Poetry Ireland Review.
Her poems explore the idea of threshold and the liminal, the state of being in transition from one moment to the next.
