Comórtas Crann Beo na Gaeilge | Irish Poetry Competition with The Royal Irish Academy
An exciting opportunity for poets writing in Irish has opened up with The Royal Irish Academy who have launched the competition Crann beo na Gaeilge.
Poets are invited to submit work of between 20-30 lines on the theme of sustainability. The guidelines say that entries ‘should be a testament to the continuity, depth and beauty of the Irish poetic tradition in its contemporary form.’
The winning poem will be displayed publicly in the Royal Irish Academy as part of a triptych, the other sections of which will be lines from ‘Fáilte don Éan’ by Séamas Dall Mac Cuarta and a poetic excerpt from ‘Buile Shuibhne’.
Entrants may submit more than one poem for consideration, but only one poem will be chosen as winner.
There is a prize of €1500.
The closing date for submissions is 01 April 2025 and entries should be sent to crannbeo@ria.ie with ‘Crann Beo na Gaeilge’ as the subject.
