The Galley Beggar Press Short Story Prize opens

The Galley Beggar Press Short Story Prize is now open for submissions

With a reputation for excellence, The Galley Beggar Press have announced that their 2023/24 short story prize is open for submissions.

Timna Fibert

Last year’s winner was Timna Fibert, with her short story Signs and Wonders, which the 2022/23 judge Jon McGregor said crackles from the very first line:

“The rhythm, the register, the sideways way with words, the feeling of being changed by reading it… delicious.” You can read Signs and Wonders here.

The judging panel this year is Alex Clark, Chigozie Obioma, Tomiwa Owolade, and Susan Tomaselli.

There is a first prize of £2,500, with £200 for those shortlisted, and £50 book vouchers for stories on the longlist.

Submissions close 30 September 2023.
