The Royal Irish Academy has a vacancy for Commissioning Editor

A rare and exciting opportunity has opened at the Royal Irish Academy for the position of Commissioning Editor.

The RIA is a predominantly publicly funded institution established for the promotion of learning in the sciences and humanities across the island of Ireland.

Deadline for applications is Monday, 26 June 2023 at midnight.

The RIA are seeking a creative and organised person to facilitate the development and delivery of innovative publishing projects that meet the needs of the Royal Irish Academy’s current strategic plan, 2019–23.

The successful candidate will join the skilled and creative team in the publishing house of the Royal Irish Academy.

Key accountabilities

  • Evaluate and develop the Royal Irish Academy’s publications list
  • Identify new publishing opportunities relevant to the current and future needs of the RIA, and propose book ideas to meet those needs.
  • Contribute in the development of books commissioned, in terms of content, overall structure, length, organisation, etc.
  • In consultation with the design manager and editor, oversee the delivery of complete manuscripts, including images, for production.
  • Engage with authors, including contracts and royalty arrangements, and be responsible for author care generally, including evaluating and responding to unsolicited proposals.
  • Develop creative partnerships to promote RIA publications.
