Seán Hewitt shortlisted for Foyles Non-Fiction Book of the Year

Earlier this year Seán Hewitt won the 2022 Rooney Prize, and he is currently shortlisted in the An Post Irish Book Awards 2022 for his memoir All Down Darkness Wide, which the Observer called ‘a remarkable memoir of love and sorrow’.

Now Hewitt can add being shortlisted for the Foyles Non-Fiction Book of the Year 2022 to that impressive list.

On being shortlisted for the award, Seán Hewitt said that “the support of bookshops and booksellers for All Down Darkness Wide has been such a joy, and it’s an honour to be on this list.”

Reviewing the memoir for Books Ireland, author and academic Eoghan Smith described it as a beautiful book by a writer of outstanding talent.

“The narrative is replete with such melancholy, illuminating, haunting passages. No straightforward conclusions can be drawn from Hewitt’s memoir, but this is often the mark of a great artist.”
