The Wild Atlantic Words Short Story Competition will be judged by acclaimed author Eimear McBride

Award-winning novelist Eimear McBride is the judge of this year’s Wild Atlantic Words Short Story Competition which is now open for entries until 31 July, 2025.

Stories of 3,000 words or fewer are invited with a first prize of €500 and a second prize of €250. The entry fee is €10.

A reading and prize-giving ceremony will take place during the 10th annual Wild Atlantic Words Festival this October.

Eimear McBride is the author of four novels: A Girl is a Half-formed ThingThe Lesser Bohemians, Strange Hotel, and The City Changes its Face, and is ‘one of the most intelligent, responsible, and serious writers at work today‘. She is the recipient of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, Goldsmiths Prize, Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize, Kerry Prize, and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.



Founded in 2016, the Wild Atlantic Words festival takes place every autumn in Castlebar, County Mayo. This year’s festival will run from Monday 06 October—12 October 2025.
