Dedalus Books to launch Ireland imprint

Dedalus Ireland launches first title in autumn 2023

Dedalus Books is to launch a new imprint, Dedalus Ireland, with its first title coming in autumn 2023.

Literary fiction publisher Dedalus Books began in 1983 (not to be confused with the poetry publisher Dedalus Press, which started in 1985) and has been publishing intelligent, unique, and prize-winning books ever since—including two Booker Prize longlisted books: Exquisite Corpse by Robert Irwin, and Memoirs of a Gnostic Dwarf by David Madsen (a full list of literary prizes can be found here).

Recent titles by Irish authors include A Provincial Death by Eoghan Smith, and Prague 1938 by Dara Kavanagh.

Publisher Eric Lane said that since they are championing more books by Irish authors it made sense to create the imprint, pointing to how fitting it is that Dedalus Books was incorporated on Bloomsday in 1983.

“Ireland shares a language with the UK and is our nearest EU neighbour—the new imprint embodies our commitment to Europe and to European Literature.”

The first title to be published under Dedalus Ireland will be Jabberwock by Dara Kavanagh, launching in Hodges Figgis on 5 October 2023.

The second title will be Eoghan Smith‘s third novel A Mind of Winter which will be published in February 2024, followed in April by the publisher’s first Irish language translation, Take Six: Six Irish Language Women Writers.
