Poetry Ireland presents the latest issue of its literary pamphlet, Trumpet
Trumpet 12 will be launched in Limerick at the City Gallery of Art on 7 July at 1pm ahead of Limerick Pride Weekend. The event is open to everyone, and will include readings from contributors, discussions, and refreshments.
Trumpet 12 will explore the theme of ‘crossing’ and is guest-edited by Limerick writer, William Keohane. The prefix ‘trans’ means across, over, or beyond—and this issue of Trumpet highlights poetry, essays, and artwork that attempt to cross over, walk that bridge and blur definitional boundaries.
Keohane says that it has been a joy and a privilege to edit this latest issue.
“It’s a celebration and exploration of gender, identity, memory, and form. Trumpet 12 includes reflections on age, heritage, home; on the thin line between sickness and health, life and death.
“I had two primary aims with this issue: to highlight literary talent from Limerick, my hometown, and to platform some work from emerging trans and non-binary artists working across Ireland today.
“Within these 36 pages, you’ll find established writers in conversation with those who are at the beginning of their writing careers; for one of these contributors, this is their first poetry publication. Along with a strong Limerick contingent, there are French, Galician, Canadian, Nigerian/Irish, and American writers included in Trumpet 12, all of whom share a connection to Ireland in some way and share in the belief that literature can help us to cross boundaries and build bridges.”
