Hachette Books Ireland has acquired world rights for Sweet Therapy, by Una Leonard
Hachette Books Ireland will be publishing Sweet Therapy: The Joy of Baking by Una Leonard in September 2022.
Irish Patisserie
Una Leonard is the owner of hugely successful Irish bakery 2210 Patisserie which has become famous as much for its delicious cakes and treats as its infectious celebration of the sweet things in life.
From her base in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Una also runs an online business delivering treats and speciality cakes nationwide, as well as her popular and inspiring Instagram account.
Depression
But Una’s road to success was not a straightforward one. At the age of eighteen, just as she started her culinary arts degree, she fell into a deep depression.
“Withdrawing from everyone I went into myself and I just wanted to be left alone. I was sick for the best part of three years. Then, slowly, as I leafed through cookbooks and food magazines, I rediscovered my fascination with baking and cooking from my early childhood. I don’t know how, but I became drawn out of the darkness of my mind and into the kitchen.”
Healing
Returning home to heal, she began baking and found that creating recipes, mixing and folding to whip up cakes and treats for family and friends helped her to find glimpses of light in the darkness.
“I spent my hours baking instead of lying in my bed. It allowed me to not think, it gave me something to focus on that got me working with my hands and it opened the gateway for my creativity to flow.”
And a few years later, she channelled that love and passion for baking into her business when she opened the doors to 2210 Patisserie in 2015.
Sweet Therapy
Now in Sweet Therapy: The Joy of Baking, Una shares her personal journey along with recipes for the bakes, cakes and treats that have seen 2210 Patisserie become the destination it is today.
Featuring 80 recipes including her famous brownies, blondies, dotie bars (her own personal invention), cookies and cake trays, along with gluten free treats and her mam’s family bakes, Sweet Therapy: The Joy of Baking is choc-full of delicious treats to make at home, a reminder of the good things in life, and a celebration of how the mindful act of creating food for the people you love and for yourself can help you find healing.
