Linenhall Library: New Exhibition and Northern Ireland Premiere
A History of Ireland in 10 WordsLinen Hall Vertical GalleryFree exhibition 1 October – 27 November
This exhibition was created to inspire fresh interest in the Irish language by revealing connections between words we still use and words used in bygone days. For example: the use of the term Taoiseach to denote Ireland’s highest government post has ensured that this is one of the best-known Irish words. The exhibition is based on the book A History of Ireland in 100 Words (2019, Royal Irish Academy) by Sharon Arbuthnot, Máire Ní Mhaonaigh and Gregory Toner. It is curated by the authors and Ruth Hegarty with illustrations produced by Joe McLaren.
