The Irish Writers Centre announces appointment of Mags McLoughlin as CEO

The Irish Writers Centre has announced the appointment of Mags McLoughlin as CEO. 

Mags joins the Irish Writers Centre with significant experience in communications, marketing, sponsorship and business development in Ireland and overseas. Her scope of work has also included significant change management, resource building, strategy development and funding enhancements.

In recent times, her consultancy practice has focussed on the non-for-profit sector including time as Interim CEO at Charities Institute Ireland and project management roles for Darkness Into Light for Pieta House, Unicef, Young Social Innovators and social enterprise LIFT Ireland.

Prior to this Mags worked as a marketing director in Sydney for a leading financial services group as well as contracting in account director roles for global communications agencies TBWA and BBDO in Dublin. At the outset of her career Mags worked with Dublin based communications agency Javelin Group.

For many years Mags has written fiction and holds an MA in Creative Writing from Queens University Belfast. In 2024 she was one of the winners of the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair. She lives in Dublin with her teenage son and two dogs.

Mags said it was an honour to deliver on the original vision of the IWC of uplifting and supporting the life of the writer.

“I will dedicate my time to growing support for all writers on the island of Ireland as they continue to create and share their stories.”

Breda Brown, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Irish Writers Centre said the Board of the IWC was delighted to appoint Mags as the new CEO.

“With strong leadership skills, as well as huge energy and ambition, Mags will work to ensure the Irish Writers Centre continues achieving our strategic objectives, while remaining true to the mission of the organisation. In parallel to her professional life, Mags is a writer, with a personal passion for writing over the past two decades. We wholeheartedly welcome her to the team and really look forward to working with her.”

Mags joins the organisation just two weeks before its Autumn Open Day on Saturday 31st August 2024. Pop along on this day to meet Mags and the team and take part in a programme of free events.
