John Hewitt International Summer School

‘Difficulties of Translation: translating difference into a shared conversation’ is the theme at this year’s John Hewitt International Summer School. There are over 40 events from more than 60 writers, artists, commentators and performers. Writers and artists around the world share their response to issues of contention as they examine how changing political circumstances affect how we think and behave, and the difficulty of translation, not only of language but of experiences and intersections between cultures. The 2019 programme features gala events from poets Billy Collins and Kathryn Maris and readings from celebrated novelists such as Ann Cleeves, Sarah Moss, Kevin Barry and Joseph O’Connor. The 32nd John Hewitt International Summer School takes place in the Market Place Theatre, Armagh, on 22–27 July.
