2020 marks the 80th year of Kennys Bookshop being in business.
In 1940’s Galway, Desmond and Maureen Kenny opened Kennys Bookshop on High St, branching out to include Irish arts a decade later. By 1953, Kenneth Webb first showed his paintings at Kennys.
The Kenny’s have supported Irish writers and artists through their bookshop over the years and continues to do so today.
As technology began to develop more for businesses, Kennys Bookshop became the second in the world to go online in 1994— after a sci-fi bookshop in San Francisco that has since closed.
In 2009 they relocated from High St. to the Liosbán Retail Park. Today, five of their six children and three of their grandchildren currently work in the family business, along with nearly twenty employees.
Happy 80th birthday, Kennys!
