Marian Keyes wins Author of the Year at the British Book Awards.

Marian Keyes won the prestigious Author of the Year at last night’s British Book Awards.

It will come as no surprise to her devoted readership that she was praised for her “expert storytelling, incredible warmth of heart, and significant contributions to the publishing industry over three decades of writing.”

Her latest novel, Again, Rachel topped the Irish bestsellers last month, a sequel to the beloved Rachel’s Holiday which also hit the top ten once again.

In typically genuine style, the author tweeted her excitement yesterday evening.

Her publishers Michael Joseph, said: “We are delighted to congratulate Marian Keyes on winning the Author of The Year Award at the British Book Awards! We’ve been the proud publishers of Marian for 25 years, and here’s to many, many more!”

Book of the Year

The Book of the Year award went to English footballer Marcus Rashford, for his non-fiction debut You Are a Champion, his inspirational guide for young people.

The judges included broadcaster Gabby Logan who praised the book, saying:

“Marcus Rashford wanted a book to inspire a generation of kids who are often hard to reach and for whom books might not have been a big part of their childhood. He and his publisher have succeeded spectacularly.
