Irish Arts Center New York—Caelainn Hogan: Republic of Shame

The Irish journalist and writer Caelainn Hogan discusses with Maeve Higgins her debut publication, Republic of Shame, an exploration and documentation of the ongoing legacy of Ireland’s religious-run institutions designed for “fallen women.” Hogan bears witness to the impact that institutionalized concealment, punishment, and exploitation had—and continues to have—on the victims of the system, with many babies born within its confines taken from their mothers and sent to the U.S. for adoption.

Musician Jess Kavanagh and poet Connie Roberts will join.
