Wolfstongue wins at Spark! School Book Awards
Wolfstongue by Sam Thompson and illustrated by Anna Tromop won the Spark! School Book Awards in the Fiction 9-11 category.
Wolstongue is Booker-longlisted Thompson’s middle grade debut. The book follows Silas, who is being bullied at school because he has trouble with his speech and is very quiet. One day, he meets a wolf and learns that there is a hidden world called the Forest, where animals speak. In the Forest, there’s conflict between the foxes and the wolves, and the wolves have become slaves. Silas decides to help his new wolf friends and must face his own struggle with words.
In a video, one young judge said, “I love this book because it is a courageous book and it’s adventurous. I like this book and I can’t put it down. Keep reading!”
The runners up were Adam-2 by Alastair Chisholm (Nosy Crow), Uma and the Answer to Absolutely Everything by Sam Copeland and Sarah Horne (Penguin), and The Valley of Lost Secrets by Lesley Parr (Bloomsbury).
The winners were chosen by children of South West London and neighbouring regions, from a shortlist selected by teachers, booksellers and librarians.
