Exciting job opportunities with New Island Books

Two exciting vacancies in Marketing and Publicity at New Island Books

Jobs in publishing are like hen’s teeth, and two have come along at once at Ireland’s fastest growing and long-established publishing house—New Island Books.

New Island recently celebrated their 30th birthday, and can name several prize winning novels on their lists, including the One Dublin One Book Nora, by Nuala O’Connor.

Small, independent, with a dedicated team, they are willing to take risks on authors and books that break the mould.

If you have a head for marketing, publicity and administration, now is your chance to apply.

Deadline is 30th November.

Marketing and Publicity Manager

Reporting to the General Manager and working with a part-time marketing and administrative assistant, the Marketing and Publicity Manager’s responsibilities will include:

  • planning and executing bespoke marketing campaigns for new titles across print, broadcast, digital and social media;
  • leading social media strategy for company’s overall branding and identifying opportunity to promote backlist titles;
  • organising and staffing book launches and related events;
  • maintaining relationships with festival directors and other partners;
  • maintaining relationships with book media and key influencers, and keeping abreast of changes in roles;
  • supporting colleagues in sales and keeping them updated on developments;
  • author care / liaison;
  • working within budgets and reporting quarterly to the board.

The ideal candidate will be a natural networker and a team player with a positive attitude. They should have existing relationships with promotional partners (media, booksellers, festivals) and experience of working within a marketing capacity within the book sector. Specific experience with a publisher and a good understanding of the processes around publication of books is a distinct advantage.

As part of the interview process, we will ask candidates to consider in advance how they might market a given book and to present their ideas at the interview.

Working hours will be 5 days per week. Our office is based in Clonskeagh, Dublin 14, but hybrid working is encouraged. Candidates must have the right to live and work in Ireland. We are an equal opportunities employer and encourage applications from across Irish society.

Apply in strictest confidence to Mariel Deegan, General Manager, mariel.deegan@newisland.ie, before 5pm on 30 November 2022.

Marketing and Administrative Assistant

New Island is seeking a hard-working and enthusiastic individual to join its small but busy team on a part-time basis as Marketing and Administrative Assistant. Reporting to the Marketing and Publicity Manager, the Assistant’s responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining office stock of books and stationery supplies
  • Processing and posting website orders, legal deposit and review copies
  • Submitting books for literary prizes
  • Maintaining metadata across a number of platforms
  • Keeping colleagues in other departments updated on publicity
  • Designing and posting social media assets

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career to join an ambitious, established company. Some experience working with books or in a marketing position is appreciated, as is a solid understanding of social media platforms, but training will be provided.

The crucial thing is that candidates should be passionate about sharing their enthusiasm for books with as wide an audience as possible, and serious about developing a career as a marketing professional in the publishing industry.

Working hours will be 2.5-3 days per week, at our office based in Clonskeagh, Dublin 14. (Due to the nature of the role, hybrid working is not possible.)

Candidates must have the right to live and work in Ireland. We are an equal opportunities employer and encourage applications from across Irish society.

Apply in strictest confidence to Mariel Deegan, General Manager, mariel.deegan@newisland.ie, before 5pm on 30 November 2022.
