Exciting role opens at Merrion Press—vacancy for Commissioning Editor
Merrion Press, a leading publisher of Irish-interest non-fiction books for the domestic Irish and export market seeks a Commissioning Editor on a full-time, fixed term basis.
Merrion Press has enjoyed rapid growth over its ten-year history, becoming the fastest growing imprint in the Irish publishing sector.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to cultivate successful and financially rewarding projects and have experience commissioning both colour illustrated and mono non-fiction.
Combined with strong communication and negotiation skills, the publisher is looking for an individual who is acutely in tune with market trends and customer sentiment and has the vision to expand the list at Merrion Press while ensuring projects are delivered on time, to the agreed specification, within budget, and meet their profitability requirements.
The chosen candidate will play a pivotal role in the continuing growth of Merrion’s frontlist and backlist. An understanding of the entire editorial process, from concept to final publication, and a keen sense of the market’s commercial dynamics are vital attributes.
The ideal candidate will further have:
Book publishing experience within the Irish or UK publishing industry.
A love of books and reading, with broad market awareness within the industry, current affairs, entertainment and creative book publishing.
A natural engagement with people, their stories and ideas, with a passion to help bring those stories and ideas to life.
An extensive network of contacts and long-term relationships with authors and agents.
A strategic, creative, numerate and commercially minded outlook.
High level of competency with Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, and Office programs.
What you will do
Collaborating with the Publisher and Production Manager, the Commissioning Editor will help commission, develop, and champion a list of 25 original trade titles per year.
Work closely with all service contractors, from editors to printers, to ensure the smooth delivery of new titles within strict deadlines and budget.
